Cellular Functions of HPV16 E5 Oncoprotein during Oncogenic Transformation

Abstract The human papillomavirus (HPV) is recognized as the main etiologic agent associated with cervical cancer. HPVs are epitheliotropic, and ones that infect mucous membranes classified into low-risk (LR) high-risk (HR) types. LR-HPVs produce benign lesions, whereas HR-HPVs lesions may progress to HR-HPV types 16 18 most frequently found in cancer worldwide. E6 E7 major HPV oncogenic proteins, they have been profusely studied. Moreover, it has shown HPV16 E5 (16E5) oncoprotein generates transformation, although molecular mechanisms through which carries out its activity not well defined. In contrast E7, open reading frame lost during integration of episomal DNA cellular genome. This suggests acts at early stages transformation process. this review, we focused on biochemical characteristics functions oncoprotein, mainly association growth factor receptors other proteins. Knowledge biology important understand role maintaining viral cycle modulation proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, alteration processes, such survival, adhesion, migration, invasion carcinogenesis. Finally, summarized recent research uses a therapeutic target, promising novel approach treatment stages.
